Motivating a Lazy Teenager

Motivating a Lazy Teenager

Motivating a Lazy Teenager My teenager lies in bed on the phone.  Motionless and eyes glued to the screen. "Hey, get up. We got to get to our appointment in 15 minutes," I say because I know that if we don't leave soon, we will be late.   Unfortunately, my teen doesn't seem to care about the appointment.  He moves with the speed of a sloth.  I already know we are going to be late. Teenagers and their lack of caring about things can be one of the most frustrating parts of parenting.  Every day, parents worldwide spend days upon days trying to motivate their teens with no success. Why is this daily routine of nagging so frustrating?  Because when push comes to shove- parents have NO control at all.   Yep, I said it.  You have no control.    If your teenager doesn't want to listen to you,...

How To Get Your Child To Eat Vegetables

How To Get Your Child To Eat Vegetables

How To Get Your Child To Eat Vegetables How To Get Your Child To Eat Vegetables with Special Guest Amy Miller telling the audience about the Juice Plus company and giving parents another opportunity to balance their children's diet with their whole food supplement. I know, I know! My kids don't eat green food, either!   I've tried many different techniques over the years to get my children to eat vegetables, but  I think I can officially wave my white flag. Don't get me wrong, I still try EVERY DAY, and I still put green food on their plate, but let's face it- no matter how much I bribe, I still can't get my kids to consume their daily minimum requirement.   This is why I brought on Amy!  Juice Plus is a whole food supplement that my family uses to fill in the gaps in their nutrition...

How To Identify A Toxic Relationship

How To Identify A Toxic Relationship

How To Identify A Toxic Relationship How To Identify A Toxic Relationship After my divorce was, I was at an all-time low in my life.  I was a mess.  I felt rejected, unlovable, and I was entirely out of my mind with crazy.  I did not know how to handle the ten thousand emotions rushing through my veins.  The result was a “Jekyll and Hyde” Kristina. One day I was responsible and put together; the next day, I was careless and stupid. Then I met this woman at a Meetup.  I was desperate for friends.  When you go through a divorce, people feel the need to pick sides, and I was losing relationships that I have had for years with each passing day.  Losing those friends did not bother me, but I felt I needed new friends to take their place and let us just say- making friends as an adult is...

Parenting Goals

Parenting Goals

Parenting Goals Parenting Goals:  Somewhere between when our children are toddlers and 18 years old, parents get lost.  We lose sight of the real goals of parenting. The purpose of parenting is not to have a kid that goes to college.  The purpose of parenting is NOT to grow a star athlete.  The purpose of parenting is not to raise an adult that will someday get married and have their own children.  These are all aspirations we have for our children, but this is NOT the purpose of parenting.  Goals like going to college or finding a spouse are important. Still, the mistake many parents make is making those goals too important.  Let me explain. The purpose of parenting is to grow a self-sufficient adult.  To teach another human to be kind, honest, help others, and be responsible.  The...

How To Get My Family Moving

How To Get My Family Moving Exercise is a struggle when you can't go to the gym!   I don't have time to work out and take care of my physical health like I should be doing.  I know, I know... I need to make movement or exercise a priority!  But let's face it, there aren't enough hours in the day! I get it.  #thestruggleisreal but we both know that this is no excuse. This week, I invited Sergio Vigaray to the Impactful Parent to talk about how to prioritize physical health without losing time with my kids.  Yep, you heard me right!  I will exercise but, I don't want to lose time with my children!  That was my criteria- and sure enough, he came to The Impactful Parent with some amazing tips for not only exercising WITH MY CHILDREN but also for incorporating some movement into my busy...

2020 Parenting Lessons

2020 Parenting Lessons

2020 Parenting Lessons Yikes, what a train wreck of a year!  Nothing happened like it was supposed to.  But although 2020 was full of resiliency and adversity, it was also full of life lessons (if you allow yourself to listen).  Here is what 2020 taught me. My oldest son is 18. A senior year in high school, this poor kid had a year full of disappointment: no prom, no sports, no social outings, no homecoming parade. The list of "not this year" items that teenagers live for is endless.   Instead of looking at the situation with frustration, 2020 taught me to value this time with my oldest child because he will be gone in a year.  Thank you, 2020, for giving me my son this year.  I had more time and opportunities to talk with him this year than I ever would have done on my own under normal...

2020 Was A Freaking Mess

2020 Was A Freaking Mess

Dear Santa, 2020 Was A Freaking Mess! I have been a bad mom this year, but I tried my best.   I am hoping that effort counts for something, so I can still make the Good-List.  The pandemic took me entirely out of my comfort zone and routine.  When things shut down in March, I was completely caught off guard.   Sure, I was a little nervous about an invisible virus spreading over the world, but I did my best to hide my fears from the kids.   I think I did a good job of this, but when schools shut down, prom was canceled, and I couldn’t take the kids to the playground anymore- things went downhill.  I tried to keep spirits up in the home, but it was difficult when the kids had a birthday, and I couldn’t throw them a party like I usually do.   Thank God for Amazon; otherwise, there wouldn’t...

Ridding Parent Guilt and Shame

Ridding Parent Guilt and Shame

Ridding Parent Guilt and Shame with Lois Hollis, a shame/guilt expert.  I try not to compare myself to other moms, but I am just as guilty of shaming myself as the next parent. We all do it. It feels like I should be spending more time with my kids, cooking with them, bonding, playing more board games, and going out on long walks together. Instead, I am tired most days. We are bored with games and family time. We are all irritable and getting on each other’s nerves. I know I am not alone. Many parents experience shame and guilt. Lois Hollis, a shame/guilt expert, says that 90% of parents experience some form of shame and guilt. We cannot seem to live up to the expectations we have in our brains of what we SHOULD be doing or HOW a “good parent” SHOULD be. Covid-19 has amplified these...

How To Make Children Resilient

How To Make Children Resilient

How To Make Children: 3 Tips for building resilient children Ever think to yourself, “Toughen Up, Kid!” Many of us grew up in a different time where parents did not caudle their children and were forced to be independent, entertain ourselves, and figure things out on our own.   Perhaps you were released into the front yard to play with neighborhood kids and were just expected to be home before supper. This type of upbringing seemed to make us more resilient than the kids of today. The next generations of kids have car seats, helmets, and even cell phones that track where they are every minute of the day.   Gone are the days of your mom slamming the brakes too hard, and her arm was the only thing catching you from hitting the windshield. You are not alone if you think that kids are too...

Connection: Which Comes First, my child or me?

Connection: Which Comes First, my child or me?

Connection: Which Comes First, my child, or me? A video about the importance of the parent-child connection and how the connection with your child can actually free you to take more time for yourself. I know there are days when you are pulling out your hair.  I know you are tired and cannot seem to get ahead.   We are all experiencing more burnout and frustration with our lives than ever before.  Why?  I believe parents are torn and stretched in too many directions. Parents are multitasking too much, and we are in a paradox of responsibilities.  Do we pause and take care of our own needs, or do we continue to sacrifice our sanity, health, and well-being for our children? In my opinion, the solution is a connection.  It is more important than ever to invest in making real connections with...
